About

Alex and Lisa LaPella are potters who believe that art and beauty should infiltrate the everyday. We believe there is an honor in owning a work of art created by another. We believe when you are able to touch the art of another human being, you are in fact touching a piece of their soul. If the artwork is something that you can use, something that can sneak into your everyday experience, you will feel the love, creativity, and talent of the maker every time you use it.

Alex LaPella has combined his love of African drumming and his love of ceramics by creating handmade ceramic hand drums. His drums are wheel thrown, assembled, glazed and fired in our studio. Then Alex fabricates the steel rings used to keep the drum head in place. Alex's drum heads are tunable and replaceable and are never glued on, insuring that they sound great in any environment.

Lisa LaPella has a love of functional ceramics. While the occasional art piece does emerge, Lisa is more concerned with the beauty that inserts itself into the lives of the users.

Almost every piece that emerges from our studio is a collaborative work. We work in tandem with each other, each giving input, suggestions, and laying hands on each other's work. We have worked together for so long that we understand the direction our work needs to take and we help each other to get there.
